Polarise Plans to Participate in EU Tender for AI Gigafactories
Polarise, a European provider of sovereign AI cloud solutions, intends to participate as part of a consortium in the European Union (EU) tender for the establishment of up to seven AI gigafactories in Europe. Up to €10 billion in EU and national funding is available for the programme, which is intended to mobilise at least €20 billion in private investment.
Michel Boutouil, CEO of Polarise:
This tender provides exactly the impetus we have long been calling for: a connected ‘Gigagrid’ architecture instead of individual large-scale sites. Looking ahead, this means that a single large site will no longer necessarily be required – connected sites with a shared compute-equivalent capacity can also contribute to a powerful European AI infrastructure. Europe now has a narrow window of opportunity to build sovereign AI capacity. That is why we are contributing our experience and sites to a corresponding consortium and shaping European sovereignty together with strong partners.
Strong Positioning of Polarise
Polarise already has the operational foundation required for such an application: with the realised AI Factory in Munich’s Tucherpark and a site in Oslo, the company has proven experience in the development and operation of modern AI infrastructure. In addition, Polarise already has suitably prepared sites available today – two in Bavaria and one potential site in North Rhine-Westphalia.
At the technological level, Polarise is already able to provide capabilities that, under the tender framework, are in part only envisaged for later expansion stages. These include the managed ML-Ops and development platform (PaaS) Polarise Core, as well as integrated AI services such as Model-as-a-Service, inferencing and APIs via Polarise Drive, with a focus on open-source models.
Polarise is continuing to advance its site and platform projects independently of the tender and regards the EU programme as an accelerator, not a prerequisite. For the application, Polarise is open to partners for a powerful European consortium.
